How Much Food Should I Feed My Dog?
Average adult dogs should eat between 2-3% of their body weight daily.
Giant dogs will be on the lower % end and miniature dogs will be on the higher % end.
Dogs should eat 2-3 times per day. Divide daily amounts between number of feedings.
Other factors to consider:
If your dog is under weight, pregnant, lactating or intact, amounts may need to increase.
If your dog is a senior or over weight, amounts may need to decrease.
Amounts may need to be adjusted if your dog is extremely active or inactive.
These amounts are approximate. Adjust as needed based on changes to your dogs weight and energy level.
Introduce your dog to a new diet gradually. Incorporate a small amount at first, increasing the new food amount daily over a week. Decrease the old food amount proportionally.
As always, please discuss any changes to your dogs diet with their veterinarian.
Always ensure your dog has plenty of fresh water.
We've allowed for some healthy treats in our calculations.
We recommend small cubes of cheddar cheese (not processed), air-popped pop corn and Ellie's favorite...seedless watermelon (no rind)
