How long will my food last?Your food arrives in 1 lb vacuum sealed pouches and can be safely stored in your refrigerator for up to 1 week. Any food not used within a week of delivery should be frozen, to be thawed in the fridge, at a later date.
-
Why is your food cooked instead of raw? While there may be some benefits to raw diets, there are also risks. Raw meats often contain bacteria like salmonella, listeria and e-coli which can be dangerous to pets and the humans who feed them. We gently cook our food to minimize the nutrient loss. Additionally, cooking makes the food more digestible, allowing for better absorption of the nutrients.

A lot of kibble is grain-free. Are grains bad for my dog?Grains are not bad for your dog. They are easily digested and quality whole grains contain vital nutrients, minerals and fiber.

How is DCM related to a grain-free diet?Grain-free diets have recently been linked to non-hereditary DCM, or dilated cardiomyopathy. DCM is heart disease that results in an enlarged heart. The FDA concluded a study in 2019, investigating grain-free diets, after an increase in numbers of DCM, coinciding with an increase in the popularity grain-free diets. The investigation concluded that it is most likely a lack of the nutrient taurine, causing the illness, opposed to a lack of grains. So what is taurine? Taurine is an amino sulfonic acid that dogs, and humans, can make themselves, in the pancreas. In order to do that, the body needs cysteine, an amino acid found in animal protein. So how does a grain-free diet play into that? Kibble, used in wet and dry food, requires a carbohydrate to stick together. When grains are removed, other sources of carbohydrate are introduced, specifically peas, lentils and beans, known collectively as "pulses". These pulses contain protein, but not animal protein, so no cysteine. The problem may be not with the lack of grains, or the introduction of pulses, but instead, low levels of quality animal protein due to the extreme processing of already poor quality meat. At this time, the FDA has not found a firm link between a grain-free diet and DCM, but it has not rejected the link either.

Why is your food so expensive? The real question is, Why is other dog food so cheap? Dog food was invented for companies to use up waste product. Food that was unfit for human consumption, and would have been discarded, was turned into a profitable product. The dog food industry is largely unchanged since then. We only use the best quality human grade ingredients available. Actual food costs more than left over waste product from human food production. It's as simple as that. We will never compromise and your dog is worth it!
-
Can I mix it with my regular food?Yes. Ideally your dog would only eat fresh food but this may not be an option for everyone. Just like with humans, it's better to have a nutritious home-cooked meal sometimes, rather than not at all.
-
Can I eat your food? You could. There is nothing in our food that is not safe for humans, but we make it for your dog!
-
My dog is on medication, are there possible drug interactions? All of our ingredients are listed. If your dog is on medication, please consult your veterinarian or pharmacist for possible drug interactions.
-
What is your refund policy? All sales are final and we cannot accept food that is shipped back to us. If there is something wrong with your order, please take photos and email them to us along with an explanation of the issue at ellieandotto@gmail.com
